At long last we have eggs! A couple of weeks later than expected but at least they’ve started laying. Four eggs a day should keep the two of us going for a while. As they’ve only just started laying the eggs are of varying sizes. The large one in the picture actually had four yolks inside of it!!! The hens are fed are organic layers pellets and they supplement their feed with grass and insects from inside the chicken coop. I had originally planned on letting them free-range the land but each time I let them out the coop they made a beeline for the raised beds and started pecking up all the seedlings so they eventually they were banished back to the coop.
